Monster Mouth

The old Odeon cinema in Aylesbury is now being demolished. It has stood derelict for many years awaiting redevelopment (look at a past blip from Merlot's Dad) and is now going to be replaced with retirement dwellings, although it's not a location I would fancy.  I remember going to see a film there some years ago soon after I moved to this area just before it closed. Now Aylesbury has a 6 screen Odeon and going to see a film has come back into fashion. Not too far away in Berkhamsted there is a delightful renovated Art Deco cinema which is always busy and often sold out, but then Berkhamsted has the London commuters as its catchment.

Sad, though, to see the old place finally being smashed to pieces and no one caring about it. The huge machine chewing it up is very impressive and I suspect will have the whole building as a pile of dereliction by now. Definitely like a monster eating everything in its path.

Earlier I had been at Waddesdon Manor for one of the coffee mornings organised for us volunteers. This was followed by a garden tour led by the guides which was really interesting. It was all about the history of the garden, not about which plant was which and I recommend this if you're ever at Waddesdon. There are two free tours each day, morning and afternoon so it's easy to tag along.

Now to get prepared for my weekend in Cardiff!
