Surface rail in Tokyo

In Japan, most trains let passengers stand behind the driver's cabin and see through the front window. This photograph was taken from a Seibu-Ikebukuro line train this afternoon between Higashi-Nagasaki and Shiinamachi stations en-route to Ikebukuro. The Seibu-Ikebukuro line runs a long way and connects Ikebukuro to Hanno in Saitama prefecture. In many places, it runs through densely populated residential areas such as the one in this picture. Experiencing the journey from behind the driver's cabin is always an interesting adventure.
