Sgwarnog: In the Field

Always

Bradford City's last scheduled home league game of the season is always dedicated to the 56 victims of the stadium fire, which happened during the final home game of the 84/85 season. A minute's silence was observed by the teams and relatives of the victims on the pitch, and by the 18,000 of us in the stands. A poignant moment.

City were still needing a point to guarantee a play-off spot, and for once they achieved a comfortable 3-0 victory over visitors AFC Wimbledon. We'll have to wait until next weekend's final match of the regular season to see which of Bolton, Fleetwood, Scunthorpe, Millwall, Rochdale and Southend will provide Bradford's opponents for the play-off semi-final.

Earlier, I had a short wander in the morning sunshine, and was rewarded by my first Speckled Wood and Holly Blue of the year, both over the road in St. John's graveyard. The Speckled Wood may have been fresh but it had already lost half a hind wing (extra). Elsewhere there was a Small White (extra) in the Community Garden and a couple of Peacocks along Moorside.
