Sakura

Sakura translated means cherry blossom...and in 1959, Japan presented Toronto with 2000 Sakura trees.  Every Spring, throngs of people with every type of camera imaginable, descends on High Park which received the majority of the trees and has been planting new cherry trees as the originals are now nearly 60 years old.  Remarkably, many of the original trees are still blossoming yearly.

I have a little secret, though....I know where a few more of the trees were planted so the extras are trees in two Toronto cemeteries.  All the trees are very gnarly, and I wonder how much longer they will continue to blossom or be destroyed in a storm.

Amazing day....another off my 'list'.

I hope you all had a fantastic Saturday as well!
