Stars and Aurora over Kakahu War Memorial

Beautiful starry night here in South Canterbury, so I went for a late night jaunt out towards Fairlie.

This is a 180 degree view captured with my fisheye lens over the memorial on the hill at Kakahu. The Milky Way is rising on the left of the picture, the orange pink glow to the right is the aurora, the bright light in the middle light pollution from Timaru.

In the extras is the view over Fairlie - you can really see the bright yellow green glow of the aurora as well as the beams that shoot towards the zenith, known as 'picket fencing'.

I forgot to set the lens details for my unchipped Samyang lens, so this is shot with the Samyang 8mm f/2.8. Fairlie shot is with the Samyang 12mm at f/2
