St. Valentine's Church, Kiedrich

And a bit of a story of A Somewhat Forgotten Englishman Abroad.

The man is Sir John Sutton, the 3rd Baronet of Norwood Park.  He was a huge fan of gothic architecture and Kiedrich has plenty of it.  He was so taken with the village that he settled here (his old house is quite impressive and now part of a vintner's yard).

He was responsible for restoring this church and its impressive old organ* somewhere between 1857 and 1865 - apparently the documentation isn't particularly good.  He also founded a Choir School here that has a very good reputation (you may even have heard of modern classical singers like Andreas & Elisabeth Scholl both from Kiedrich).

Sutton is even buried here in the graveyard and has a school named after him.

I find it somewhat interesting that he has a German wikipedia page but no English one.

*Stop sniggering.  You know who you are.
