the 'food of the gods'...

... are happily growing in neighbour J's  garden.
For several weeks now I've watched J's persimmon tree flower, fruit into little green golf balls and now netted they are ripening through the colours of tourmalines from subtle yellows to amber, rose and garnet.

The rosy red fruit is soft to the touch and when I dig into it at breakfast tomorrow it will be like sweet jelly.
The golden glows of the others on this branch will ripen on the tree or picked and ripen at room temperature.

The persimmon is also know as 'the apple of the Orient' , a native of China, Japan and the Himalayas, western Asia and ... North America where they grow wild as far north a The Great Lakes.

Meanwhile...back in in suburban Western Australia... I can be  a 'breakfast forager' and there is the potential for pies, cakes and jams, if I can persuade friend, neighbour and pastry champ H to have a go!
