Pilgrimage

We had an enthusiastic crowd at the first Peterborough Local Group guided walk round Barnack Hills and Holes NNR. Everyone admired the Pasqueflowers, which were still in excellent condition thanks to the cool conditions that have prevailed over the last week. However, generally cloudy skies and a cool breeze meant that there were comparatively few insects on the wing, and not a sign of the hoped for Green Hairstreaks.

I was too busy leading  and explaining to take any photographs so today's photograph is courtesy of Lizzy, Chris's girlfriend, who borrowed my camera to document the walk. Here I'm explaining a bit about the natural history of Pasqueflowers, standing on the top of one of the many hillocks that gives the site its name. I like the angle of this shot and the fact that the photographer is being photographed!
