My father's Kodak Retina to the blip-rescue again .... 

I'm going to assume this type of rangefinder film camera was quite common and/or popular at the time of the famous mantra.  My father used to say when in doubt 1/60th at f5.6,  but he used slowish slide film which I guess makes it about the same sort of thing.
