What a lovely day:-

to Get On With It

There comes a time when it is really necessary to start the weekly examination of the colonies.

Spurred on yesterday by reports of swarming in the Kendal district we approached our first inspection with some enthusiasm.

That enthusiasm did not last long, however.  The weather was less than perfect and there was a strong north easterly wind blowing.  The bees were really quite bad tempered and aggressive.

That resulted in a very quick inspection of the hives to make certain that there were no signs of swarming and, where necessary a frame of brood or foundation was added to each colony.

Considering that the April weather has been less than ideal at our location, a surprising amount of honey had come in and a second super had to be added to a number of colonies.
