Imposter

Gladiolus tristis, hardy here and self seeding gently around the alpine beds.  The fine, grassy foliage is not a nuisance and the flowers sway gently in the breeze, always looking good against a dark background.  It's far too tall for the alpine beds really but I haven't the heart to root it out.  Like a lot of things in life, it's best to accept both the good and the not-so-good in it for the alternative can be to go without - guess that's my philosophy for Friday.
