Diary of an Edinburgher

By LadyMarchmont

A day of treats!

I didn't try very hard today to force myself to the gym. Tomorrow. JR had another vigorous session to make up for my lack of enthusiasm.

Elizabeth came to collect Archie, so we popped into town for lunch. We went to a well known vegetarian restaurant, which we know from previous visits, and what a good choice that was.

NO muzak.✔️
Waiter with a smart waistcoat and big bushy beard.✔️
Excellent menu.✔️

The menu read like poetry. Both meals were superb -

Beetroot, Bramley apple and Strathdon Blue cheese pudding.
A light bake of beetroot,
apple and blue cheese
served with polenta chips,
broccoli and a pea purée.

Aubergine, chick pea and cashew koftas.
Served with roasted sweet potato
and mushroom in a spicy aromatic
coconut, courgette tomato sauce,
green beans,
toasted almond flakes
and marinated plum.

From there we went to check if my hat shop had the colours I wanted - my favourite hat is so faded. But no luck - not the required colours.

A wander down the road to the new(ish) cellar development. First stop was the delightful 'Donuteria'. They are completely scrumptious. JR had one filled with chocolate, and I had an ice cream one. Excellent coffee too.

On to the next place, but we had to abandon it because they had very high leather couches suspended about two feet up in the air, which meant that you needed to be a gymnast, or at the very least, reasonably fit, to actually climb up on to them.

But next to that was a wee wine bar with four tables. I wanted to try the local Paolozzi beer, and JR sampled a glass of a very nice NZ Sauvignon Blanc (Esk Valley). We chatted with the couple at the next table and had a pleasant time until I noticed how the time had flown and we really should have been on the way home. Just as well Elizabeth is flexible when bringing Archie back, and he was happy to relax in the sun until his mums finally came home.

What a day full of treats for all!
