TASS

The TASS building which once housed theTelegraph Agency of the Soviet Union, and now still functions as a state-owned news agency.  The building was erected in the 1970s and was an architectural hit at the time; among other 'constructivist' features the window portals were designed to look like televisions screens which implied that the building 'talked' to the people. Only officially sanctioned talk of course.  As a student growing up elsewhere, we had a favourite and cheap wine known by its abbreviation, "Tass".  We sometimes wondered if the reporters at TASS had been allowed to get at some real Tass before posting news for TASS.
