On the verge

I went past a garden today where in the past there were hundreds of Narrow-leaved helleborines growing on the banks and even in the gravel drive. The late owner used to let me dig them up from the drive and when they failed to grow for me he told his visitors, as he later passed on to me gleefully, that even the Head Gardener at Arduaine couldn't grow them!

There were many still growing on the verge outside the garden, but the whole drive has been torn up and the orchids too I suppose. But they seed themselves all over the verge, so I'm sure that their future is assured.
