Dancing for mental health

Zumba dancing on a street corner of Bridge of Allan this afternoon certainly grabbed my attention, and that of others too.

I thought at first it was some kind of electioneering gimmick but no this was far more serious.

It was  part of Mental Awareness Week and the dancers were from Seemescotland.

One in four of us experience a mental health problem in any given year. So that’s an awful lot of people and what more it’s rarely talked about because of the stigma and discrimination attached to mental illness.

But how do you change public perception? Well SeemeScotland have hit on a fun and novel way with their street performance and asking people what makes them happy.

Today the answers were unanimous: “sunshine… music …dance …and singing.”
