Banksia marginata

Did you know that there are pollen fossils of this ancient Australian native plant 65 and 59 million years old? I went to a lecture this morning on Australian grasses, seeds and plants and the Banksia was mentioned in this context.  We have several trees in our gardens here, so it was easy to pop out and find one to Blip.  This new knowledge will make me look at them with even more respect from here on. There are also fossils in New Zealand, some 21 million years old, but they no longer grow there.  All but one Banksia species is endemic to Australia, this exception being found in New Guinea and the Aru Islands. The more we Blip the more we learn....
