Farewell to a lovely man

Today I went to the funeral of a friend that I have known for many years. We were both active in folk music, the Shropshire Wildlife Trust, Cambrian Heritage Railways, Save Old Oswestry Hillfort and various related activities but that was only a drop in the ocean of his activities.

Oswestry Parish Church was full and the service was a lovely one with many tributes. The "do" afterwards was a very sociable occasion as I knew so many people there.

I knew that Andrew was an eye specialist but he was a very modest man that never mentioned what exactly he did. I found out today that he was nationally and internationally known for his pioneering research and surgery on corneal transplantation and other related areas while based at Manchester Eye Infirmary. When I got home I looked him up on the internet and was amazed by his medical achievements.

He was a lovely and unassuming man that will be sadly missed by the community as well as his family and friends.
