There is a time in the day of a dog, when a dog can only concentrate on one thing. 

I can't tell you exactly what it is - but it involves checking out every square inch of grass, turning round and round and round in circles, at least 7 times, before action can commence.

At the end of the action, it's imperative that you scratch up bits of grass as hard as you can.

Then all's right with the world once again.
