Ceanothus

Back to the subject of May 13's blip, to give some impression of just how visually arresting ceanothus is in full bloom. The colour seems to change through the day, presumably because of changes in the colour temperature of daylight at various times. In the early morning and at dusk it's an intense electric blue, whereas in the middle of the day it takes on a warmer hue, as seen here. The quantity of flowerheads is a blessing for the bees who work their way through it relentlessly - it hums audibly with foraging activity. Then, when it's over, all that's left is a snowfall of tiny florets covering the ground beneath. And, somewhere, some honey...
