Evora - Day 1

Flight from Edinburgh to Lisbon is earlier this year - 6.20 rather than 7.30 last year - that extra hour in bed makes all the difference as seen here me flagging at 2pm in one of the city squares in Evora, Alentejo region of Portugal.

We were pushed back at exactly 620, smooth flight over and landing at were at the car hire at the airport by 945! This year our car is a brand new Renault something, but I prefer the polo we had last year.

An hour later, over the VdG bridge down the motorway and we were in the very pretty town of Evora. It's a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the old part sits behind the city walls, where we were staying. Quirky hotel as the reception is an adjoining shop with a life sized black and white cow outside! Left the cases and went for a wander, then sitting in the main square Praca do Serico for something to eat.

There was some drama later due to 4x4 driver carelessly parked in a narrow cobbled street so as the service bus couldn't squeeze past. The queue quickly developed. We went for an ice cream further round the square and when we came back we were sitting at the fountain all traffic still backed up when we saw this crazy blonde try to squeeze into a non existent space from the right off the square into the main queue. She had asked the driver to move back which he couldn't so she rammed him! A crowd quickly formed when she started shouting at everyone, eventually the transport police came, also the driver of the 4x4 who got escorted to the police car after moving it to get charged. He was shouted at by this group of local worthies , lots of swearing - and the blonde also joined in. Then everyone dispersed and Evora on a Sunday became quiet again....

We checked into our room, showered and changed and after a few attempts found a restaurant sitting outside in one of the little Squares for our tea.
Due to the early start we crashed at 9pm!
