a fruit salad...

..of flavours in one little berry!

The Feijoa,  Acca sellowiana or Feijoa sellowiana  (after Portugese  botanist Joao de Silva Feijo), is newly appeared in Marissa's orchard shop and what a delicious little, duck egg sized, gem.
Native to southern Brazil, northern Argentina and the mountainous areas of Uruguay and Paraguay Feijoa is also known as a pineapple guava, fig guava and guavasteen.
Grown commercially in New Zealand and here in Australia they are also grown in orchards and gardens as windbreaks.

I've tended to avoid them in the past...goodness knows why...but at $5 a kilo and a great source of Vitamin C not only scooping a bargain but a treat to scoop into.
M reckoned 'an acquired taste...kiwi, pineapple and quince' and others write of strawberry pineapple, apple and mint. Anyway which way...yummm!

Foodie friend S sent me a 'quick Kiwi fruit sorbet' recipe and I think these may be just as delicious 'sorbeted'....and judging by the recipes on line it is very versatile lending its flavours to chutneys and jams, puddings and poachings, chutneys and salsas.
