History by the bucket load

One of my hobby horses is the notion that history ought to be a core subject in our schools ... not from a names & dates perspective, more from an actions have consequences or spot the pattern angle. There is certainly a lot of history at Corfe Castle!

This is the ruined gateway into the heavily defended keep area of the castle.  Sieged in the civil war  (our 2nd civil war?) the castle was later made indefensible by the parliamentarian army.  Gill and Jenny are discussing with another visitor which parts of the gate fitted where.

Once the war was over and the monarchy restored the family who lived here rebuilt their family home at Kingston Lacy (blipped previously) not too many miles away.
