Aurora Borealis by Aalto

This bronze sculpture by Alvar Aalto in Rovaniemi, Lapland, is titled Aurora Borealis. It was produced in 1962 and reflects Aalto's quest to design a work of art that has meaning. He typically designed works of art for his buildings because he did not want to disconnect his works of art from his architecture.

Aalto (1898 - 1976) was a famous Finnish architect and designer. His work includes architecture, furniture, textiles and glassware.

Rovaniemi is the capital of Lapland in Finland, and is located at the northern Arctic Circle, lying at the junction of North and South on the border to the Arctic. This is the furthest north I have ever been. Would love to see the real Aurora Borealis!
