It Was A Cottage --

-- about half a mile from where we live.
Until a few weeks ago I had no idea that this place had ever existed, nor when it was demolished.
A chance conversation with the man leading the volunteers who were restoring some ancient hedges and clearing an overgrown and forgotten lane, prompted me to go looking for the ruins of a sluice keeper's cottage adjacent to one of the many millponds along this stretch of the Arrow. These two patches of brick work are all that remain of what once was one man's home and castle.
