Hymenosporum flavum

Perhaps Native Frangipani is easier to say and more easily recognised.  This is the seed pod of one of many we have in our gardens.  It is native to Australia and New Guinea and produces  the most beautiful cream clusters of fragrant flowers in spring.
I am fascinated by these seed pods, because initially all of these seed leaflets layered into each other within the casing which you see open above them.  Each leaflet contains the tiniest of flat seeds.  The whole pod is about 2.5 inches across at this stage.
I have tried to take this again on a flat white surface (instead of a table napkin!), but none came up as clearly defined as this so here you have it - warts and all!
