Open for business

On June 1st of 2012, Washington State ended it's decades old monopoly on the sale of hard liquor. Previous to that date, a person would have to go to a state run liquor store to purchase anything stronger than beer and wine.

An initiative was placed on the ballot in 2011, and passed by the voters. Now a person is able to buy hard liquor almost anywhere, including convenience stores, and even the local drug store. Every retailer seems to want to get in on the action.

I thought the sidewalk sign was kind of cute. The state would have never allowed anything like that in the past.
