"Good fences make good neighbours"

-- English proverb

"A fence lasts three years, a dog lasts three fences, a horse three dogs, and a man three horses"
-- German proverb

After all the hard work our neighbour put in replacing the old fence with this lovely new one, all done with his own fair hands, I certainly hope it will last more than three years. As we live at the top of a hill, some strong winds put a strain on fence panels, but these new ones are the sort that, if the wind removes them, they can be reslotted in place fairly easily.

Today we took these newish neighbours out to a local carvery in appreciation of the new fence. It was a great opportunity to get to know them a little better. And we had a delicious lunch at the same time.

We're now thinking about putting a screen in front of the oil tank, though it's barely an eyesore without, especially with pelargoniums and nasturtiums adding colour, and yellow flag irises opening in the pond.
