Scanning the Skies.

I am not sure what the Kotuku or White Heron was looking for in the sky - I scanned it too and saw nothing.

I was very pleased to spot the Kotuku fishing on the incoming tide. They tend to be loners and are seldom seen in exactly the same place two days in a row, so spotting one is a bonus and can be hoped for but not guaranteed. We are very lucky to have one here as they are rare in New Zealand with only about 200 birds in total.

The yellow beak shows this is a non breeding bird - the beak will turn black when they are ready to breed.
