Quod oculus meus videt

Goodbye to Northumberland

Not a bad day to be travelling in the car.  We said our goodbyes to our hosts and their lovely cottage just before 10 am this morning.  Four and a half hours later we pulled on to a very soggy drive at home.

We've had a fantastic week.  Admittedly, the early sunrise (4:40 am) defeated my efforts to be on the coast at dawn (It was about 35 minutes drive to the nearest coastal resort and more than an hour to reach such places as Bamburgh Castle).  Still we felt we were very well placed to visit the sites of Northumberland and have decided to go back when we can.

L obviously had the highlight of riding on the sands around Lindisfarne (she is still mentioning a stiffening of muscles in her back).  For me the profusion of castles is amazing (and we still didn't manage to repel the Scots!).  I thoroughly enjoyed photographing puffins again and learn more each time I get the chance to practice.

If you ever head up in that direction we can thoroughly recommend the cottage, which can sleep four in two bedrooms.  You can read more here.

Ah well, another holiday is over.  Back to work tomorrow.
