The Harp

This is one of the three Calatrava bridges called the Harp, the Lute & the Zither as these cable bridges resemble this instruments.

I just had one go at this nightspot with passing cars, as the lights were automatically turned off just after I shot this, leaving me standing in the dark :-(

So, I will have to return another time to complete my series of the three.

There has been al lot of fuss concerning the costs and necessity of this trio, just read the wiki from mimoa.eu below...

These bridges were planned as part of the main infrastructure for an area with 6000 new houses. For the Hoofdvaart, Calatrava designed a 'family' of three cable stayed bridges with very similar characteristics. Just as with his previous designs, the human body stood model for these bridges. All three bridges have a main steel pylon in the form of a spindle, which varies its position from vertical to inclined along the Hoofdvaart, as travellers pass from bridge to bridge. As landmarks, the pylons pierce the sky and at the same time accentuate the geometrical lines of the polder landscape. The bridges have been subject to criticism, because of their excessive 30 million euro's costs, their extravagance and their size in relation to the 8 meter! small canal.
If that was not enough they started to rust almost immediately leaving this 6000 home population with an additional maintenance for the corroding bridges at 5 mln Euro extra.

A waste of public money, but... three beauties for the photographic eye!
