U-Bahn München: 90/100 Thalkirchen

Munich Underground: 90/100 Thalkirchen

Closing in on the end of my strictly alphabetical Munich underground series, today's entry is Thalkirchen underground station in the southern part of the city. It was opened in October 1989 as part of the souther extension of the orange U3 underground line. As with all stations of that time not only function but also form was a planning priority. Thalkirchen underground station is therefore very bright with walls in many shades of blue and green; the ceiling is designed similar to the neighbouring stations at Brudermühlstraße, Machtlfinger Straße, and (especially) Obersendling. The platform has no pillars and almost no furnishing, and therefore seems very spacious.

The walls show various paintings of different animals, as the station serves as stop for the Munich zoo.

This is also my entry for the Cultural Blip Challenge "Transport".
