Low tide

I walked a long way today. Although it’s hot here, it’s not quite as humid as in Borneo so you can walk for longer before dissolving in a pool of sweat! Penang has a huge variety of architecture. The centre of Georgetown is a world heritage site. There’s a mixture of styles: Chinese shophouses, some beautifully restored, others wonderfully dilapidated, grand colonial buildings like the one I posted yesterday, and a small section of houses on stilts.

The ‘jetties’ area was a Chinese area and are named after various Chinese clans. They are mostly residential with a few temples but one has been turned into a tourist shopping street. This low tide shot makes the ‘floating’ houses look very different to the ones I posted from Brunei.

Next up: some island hopping.
