Brood X Straggler

I am posting this a day late as we have house guests at the moment.

We are currently experiencing the emergence of some 17-year Cicadas who are not supposed to make another appearance until 2021. Apparently it is normal for some of them to appear 1-4 years early and others, 1-4 years afterwards, although I have never noticed this phenomenon before. They are known as stragglers and there seems to be an unusually large amount of stragglers this year.    We generally don't have a lot of them at any time because our neighborhood was built during one of these 17 year cycles, but other neighborhoods have more and I can hear their deafening noise in the distance. They really don't cause any harm and will be gone in 4-6 weeks. They make a good blip.
