Wild Poppy

This wild poppy was growing at the side of the car park up at the Heritage Park.

A big flower on such a slender stem, almost but not quite bowed over in the rain. The petals were paper thin and almost translucent.

According to Google wild poppies are more elegant, dainty and romantic than their opium-head cousins.

My own poppies are doing well but one clump of Patty's Plum Poppies has been well and truly battered in recent weeks. It's too late for this year but I bought a peony support frame today which I shall put over the poppy after this year's growth has died back.
