Escaping ...

Under a lowering sky, a white cruise ship edges round the Tail o' the Bank and heads down the Firth of Clyde. I don't know where she was headed - I had no time to check the shipping map - but I felt a pang of envy at the thought of sunnier seas. Today could have been in March - the temperature was 11ºC and the wind was chilly. As I headed home at 10pm the broad daylight only served to accentuate the bleakness of the day; at least when it's dark you can pretend it's normal weather.

I suppose we missed out on the gales ...
