I, too, have been trying to make sense of it all. I believe that our disregard for and destruction of our environment and countless human lives has some of its roots in a very sick understanding of the religious notion that we are only aliens on this planet, that Earth is not really our home. Would you treat your own house like we treat our planet?

If we believe that we are only strangers or passersby in this wicked, hostile world, that this life is only a (unfortunately necessary) prologue to another, better life in some sort of paradise, that this Earth is bound for destruction and that it will be replaced by a better one, why even bother about protecting it? Why not speed things up a little bit?

We are but vulnerable little humps of earth. Raw but beautiful. Naked but warm. When we are born, we share in the beauty and warmth of our Mother. And our sole purpose in this short life we are given is to share that warmth, to keep that flame burning, to shine our light.

Today's blip tries to depict that. I did two versions, and my daughter insisted I published both. The less dramatic one (her favorite) is in the extras.
