World wide web...

Today we completed the Chatsworth Veteran Tree survey - over 600 trees plotted, measured, assessed and photographed. A total of over 18000 pieces of data and just under 1000 images. A good job well done!

The last day went remarkably smooothly considering our recent run of bad luck. We started the job in high summer, and finished with the cool chill of autumn speeding us along. Swallows were still feeding over the riverside meadows, but we saw the first small party of fieldfares arriving from the north - surprisingly early.

Early sunshine was replaced by low grey cloud and a smattering of rain, but this didn't deter us. Just as we were nearing the end of the day the sun broke through the cloud, bathing the hills with low light and etching the telephone wires with silver. Even in deepest Derbyshire the communication web weaves its way along the valleys.
