The Fallen . . .

It rained solidly all night.  Several houses round about were flooded, and the roads are running like rivers.  Going to the village was like driving through a very wide ford -  spray on either side of you all the way up to the main road, ie three miles!  The council workmen were out, digging out and clearing the gulleys and stacking up sand bags, as were several farm tractors.

As an aside - my Granda used to be a council workman in Northumberland, many years ago, and they had a chap working with them who used to be a Councillor but had been caught embezzling funds, so had been demoted.  He was known as "Geordie lowp the dyke" because whenever anyone came past where they were working, he jumped over the wall so no one could see him!

Anyway!  Took my nice little penknife out to the garden and cut off all the fallen lupins.  There is not really a suitable spot for them in the house, as they are so huge!  I perched them on the windowsill, but knew there was a good chance of Ollie knocking them off if he saw something exciting go past, so I have now moved them.

An afternoon in the shop and then an hour later back there for a management committee meeting and to take the minutes.  Time for a small gin!
