Venetian Romance On The Charles

We had a very fun evening!  Mr. W's birthday was at the end of May, and as most husbands probably do, when asked what he WANTED for his birthday, he replied, "Oh, I don't NEED anything!"  Not helpful.

So.  Left to my own devices, I cast about for something fun and unusual to do together.  Lo and behold, there is an authentic Venetian gondola moored along the banks of the Charles River in Boston, which you can hire for a romantic hour of sightseeing.  Seeing as how next to Boston, Venice is our most favourite city in the world, this seemed like a no-brainer!

And what an enjoyable experience we had!  We brought a bottle of chilled wine with us, which was promptly placed in an ice bucket.  We were seated in great Venetian splendour amidst red silk pillows aboard Firenze  (the name of our gondola), and then a bouquet of roses was presented to me (!).  A picnic basket was swiftly produced, filled with cheese and crackers, strawberries, and sweeties, and after a brief introduction to Eric, our gallant gondolier, we were off!

We glided down a quiet canal adjacent to the Charles River, passing under several bridges (which, of course, we duly kissed under), and then out onto the Charles, amidst a bevy of racing sailboats and flotillas of proud Canada Goose families.  A violinist accompanied us very beautifully as we slid through the glistening sunset waters.  So romantic and fun!
