Monolith

This 5m high granite stone stands in a small park in Sevenoaks with no plaque to say what it is.  I have posted this not particularly wonderful photo  because I was interested to learn that the land used to be part of the grounds of Bradbourne Hall . The Hall was demolished in the 1920s and the land sold for houses.
In 1870 the Bradbourne Hall estate was owned by welsh coal mine owner Francis Crawshay, who was an authority on Druidical law and erected many stone monoliths in lines and circles throughout the grounds.  The photo is of the monolith is situated in a patch of the grounds that is now Bradbourne Lakes Park  and many others still stand today in the gardens of houses that now occupy the land. You can read more about the very eccentric Francis Crawshay here including the tale of him ringing a bell at 5:30 every morning to wake the lazy local residents.
I was going to post the goslings (extra) resident in the park  but decided the history of the monolith and Francis Crawshay was too interesting to pass over.
