Allotment Day

Having brought #2 Daughter up to Edinburgh yesterday, we were ready to give her help at the allotment today. She had a neck injury a couple of weeks ago so we wanted to do as much as we could. The weeds had thrived in the damp weather while she had been away.

It wasn't long before we saw a bit more of the damp weather! The three of us sheltered in the little hut while the worst of the shower passed. It looked like the rain was here to stay so we packed up and went visiting garden centres.

First on the list was the Damhead Nursery where I was tempted by a yellow hosta and a fern, then we went to the nearby, Secret Herb Garden on Old Pentland Road. It was here that we were surrounded by poppies. Being in a large greenhouse had protected them from the weather. Most of them had gone to seed but it was still a great experience walking amongst them. We sat and drank coffee in the greenhouse, admiring the plants around us.

After that, it was off to Pentland Plants, in case they had anything katkatkat needed, then to Ikea, then to B&Q. A busy day already but then we went back to the allotment to unload her shopping and get a few plants into the ground and watered.
