What a small world!

We woke up this morning to the familiar sound of rain hammering on the roof however,  by the time we joined the queue for the ferry to Tarbert on Harris it had eased off and after the ferry set off the sun actually came out.

There was an interesting interlude when the crew did a 'man overboard' drill which was quite interesting.  The second extra shows the 'body' being recovered by a lifeboat from the ferry.  It's a bit murky as it was taken though a cloudy window.

The big surprise of the day was when we arrived at Tarbert and went for a coffee in the Distillery visitor centre.  We bumped into Katriona and Rupert (centre couple in first extra).  Katriona is the senior nurse at my old practice.  She and I did  charity cycle ride from London to Paris a few years ago.   They were on holiday themselves and were at the port to meet some friends who travelled over on the same ferry.

We had a lovely lunch with them and hopefully will meet up again as we travel the length of the Hebrides.

We are now in Stornoway in a rather ordinary campsite but in poll position for our trip down the gorgeous coast of Lewis,  Harris,  The Uists and Barra over the next week.

We went up a small road North of Stornoway and came across this gorgeous beach.  We wished we had wild camped there but we will make sure we travel with a full water tank in case we come across any similar spots.   It's quite likely we will not have internet connectivity over the next few days but we will backblip.
