Orchids at Latterbarrow

Spent the day at Latterbarrow Nature Reserve at Witherslack volunteering with the Cumbria Wildlife Trust. Latterbarrow is a lovely small reserve with a huge range of wild flowers and insects at this time of year. The blip is one of the many beautiful orchids that can be seen there.

The volunteering effort was concentrated on clearing brambles from one steep incline to improve the environment for the grasses and flowers that attract the butterflies and moths. Not many butterflies out today but I did spot a Northern Brown Argos moth - well at least that is what I think it is having googled it!

Heading out this evening to a public meeting hosted by the CWT on how to encourage red squirrels to inhabit this part of the south lakes. Should be interesting.

For the record yesterday's play in Keswick was much better than I expected and I actually quite enjoyed it. Which was good as we spent two hours getting to Keswick following the closure of the A591 north of Grasmere.
