Bridge 123g

This is the Northgate Street bridge on the Shropshire Union canal. At this point the canal follows the line of the city walls (to the left) and runs through a sandstone cutting. It is a Grade II listed building and built around 1790.

In all the years I have lived in the area I think I have probably only walked along here a couple of times before and that was a very long time ago. It used to be a litter strewn area with dodgy looking individuals lurking in the shadows. However, things have improved dramatically with a general tidying up of the towpath along with the development of the King Charles Tower gardens, which you can see in the background of my photograph of  Cow Lane Bridge which is the next bridge along.
