Two thirds of a triathlon (sort of)

A gloriously sunny and pleasantly warm day. We are inexperienced cyclists and at the moment we are just trying to build up the distance we are comfortable cycling. Having done a few 10 mile rides we thought we'd try cycling to the Leven estuary at Greenodd and back which is probably 14 miles. The section around Bigland Hall was unexpectedly hilly. So much so that we didn't fancy the return trip back up the large hill. Instead we came back via Holker, Cark and Cartmel which added about another 5 miles to the trip but did avoid the hill. In a feat of amazing incompetence we rather comically contrived  to lose each other on the flat, traffic-free lane with only one turn - had to revert to mobiles to find each other!

After lunch we took a 5 mile amble to the top of Hampsfell and back. The return leg was pretty hot in the unbroken sunshine.

The blip is from the footbridge that crosses the Leven estuary near Greenodd.

Looking forward to our first visit to the Punchbowl at Crossthwaite for dinner tonight.
