Sailing!

Saturday
Today we were invited to join some friends on their Hobie cat sailing boat. They only bought it at the end of last season, and are currently keeping it at home, until they decide which State Park Lake they want to keep it at. They picked us up from a nearby car park - since we live on a cul de sac street, it wouldn't have been easy for them to turn around on our street - and we drove up to Cowan Lake together. Once we got up there we had to get it ready to go on the water - notably lifting the mast. It was a sweltering hot day on land especially in a tarmac car park, but once we got out on the water it was wonderful, with the breeze from the movement of the boat, and the sail affording some shade. The wind unfortunately was a little erratic, but personally I was glad it wasn't very strong, since it was the first time in many years I had been out on a sailing boat! As it was, I found it most enjoyable. We didn't have too long out, about a couple of hours, since P. had to get back by late afternoon as he was meeting with his son to buy a car. I hadn't seen P. and S. for many years - P was a former colleague of Rogers, but just took a retirement package a few months ago - so it was great catching up with them again!
