Sports Day

Miss E's Sport's Day today. It was one of my favourite days last year and I've been so looking forward to it. Even more so because Miss T, Mr K and Miss C were coming along too!
We were a bit late leaving and Miss E's first event - the high jump - was going on as we arrived. Unfortunately Miss E had already been knocked out!
Then it was to the Vortex throw - a cross between javelin and shot put. Miss E put a LOT of effort into her throws! (See extras)
Then it was lunch. We'd already bagged our spot under a tree which was just as well as it was about thirty three degrees today. We ate our delicious picnic of quiche, strawberries, cheese, ham, sausage rolls, raspberries, crisps and jaffa cakes. Yummy!
Then it was up to another tree near the track to watch the afternoon's events. It was so boiling hot and sunny I'd been really worried about having to sit out in it with no shade but it was lovely under our tree. Miss C had a lovely time crawling about and charming all the people around us.
Miss E did quite well in the egg and spoon race. She would have done better if she hadn't panicked and started running near the end because everyone else was running and she thought she was going to come last. Obviously all the eggs went flying!!
I was surprised that she was picked for the 600m race because she's not blessed in the stamina department. Also, I was a bit worried because it was  so ridiculously hot and sunny.
She came second last and I was so proud that despite being very obviously exhausted and upset she sprinted the last bit flat out in an effort to beat the other girl and not come last!
It was horrible to see her crying and hyperventilating after the race. Stupid running in the stupid boiling hot sun!!!!!
But she recovered and came third in the 75m sprint. Woohoo!!!!
There were lots more races and relays which we half paid attention to whilst drinking and snacking under our tree and generally lazing about in the heat!
The house points were totalled up at the end of all the events and - just like last year - we were robbed!!!!
When we got home Miss T and I went down to Waitrose to pick up some more bits for dinner. We were quite perturbed by the lady on the deli counter chewing gum, handling meat with her bare hands and apparently using her giant carving knife for the first time.
But dinner was another lovely lot of treats - chicken, lamb and lots of deli salads. Delicious!
The temperature was still over thirty degrees at bedtime which was pretty hideous. Roll on next week when apparently it's going to be much more Autumnal!!
