Navelwort

A bit of a wild goose chase day today, trying to find the area in Brighton famed for White-letter hairstreaks. When I finally found the right area, the weather turned dull and drizzly, so I gave up!
Rosie and I went for an adventure driving along the coast from Brighton to Worthing, and stopping at Findon church on the way home.
This beautiful Navelwort Umbilicus rupestris, grows freely on the flint walls, in the shady churchyard, putting on a good show of upright flower spikes this time of year.
The plant also called Wall Pennywort, or Penny pies has edible leaves, but is not very common this far east, so I think I will leave it gracing the walls where it grows.
