Spot the difference

It looks like a bee and its potential predators think it is a bee but it is not.

It is a carder bee mimic and a type of hoverfly.

I think it might be Merodon equestris but I'm far from certain.

It is the large eyes and lack of long antennae the tell me it is not a bee.

In the blip. it is sitting on the head of valerian (Valeriana officinalis)
