It has been widely reported the the Navy's latest aircraft-carrier (HMS Queen Elizabeth) left Rosyth yesterday afternoon and sailed under the Forth bridges last night to undertake sea trials in the North Sea.

I was therefore surprised to look out of my livingroom window and see it at anchor off Kirkcaldy.

Shortly after, I was alerted by the hooting of foghorns that a cruise ship (the Caribbean Princess) was having a nose-around before leaving the Forth (see 'extra').

Later there was a stark contrast between a gas tanker (Kappagas) a general gargo ship (Burhan Dizman 1) lit up like a Christmas tree and the dark hulk of the warship with just 5 lamps visible.
